Megan Mericle is an artist and communications professional living and working in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal. She creates macro photography that deals with nature in dark and nocturnal scenes with an emphasis on abstract fields of colour. She is interested in exploring the plant and fungi world, and how light, form, energy and colour interact in elemental ways. By focusing and exploring close-up aspects of organic life she strives to create work that elicits a relaxing state of consciousness and cultivates respect for the biodiversity of nature and ecosystems. She is interested in exploring how humans try to control, shape, quantify and understand nature. She is deeply passionate about how herbal medicine, food security, food forests, cooperatives, acts of solidarity and mutual aid efforts and sustainable solutions such as building more urban greenhouses, parks, and gardens can contribute to a more accessible and egalitarian future. Promoting local food systems and herbal medicinal resources and access are important to her as she continues to learn more about our fascinating plant neighbours and the complex ecosystems that supports all of us.
